Ford might have earned a reputation as a leader in the pickup segment, and has inspired plenty of rubber-burning excitement with models like the Mustang, but in the last few decades, it’s SUVs that have really driven the brand’s success. The Ford SUV roster was long dominated by the four Es in the Edge, Escape, Explorer, and Expedition, but the brand broke new ground in 2021 when the midsize Bronco burst back onto the scene.

The lineup has undergone some changes in the years since, with the Edge cruising into retirement and the Bronco gaining a compact sibling in the Bronco Sport crossover. Still, one thing that hasn’t changed is Ford’s commitment to quality. Every SUV exemplifies the unique advantages of its class, from efficient compact models to spacious three-row SUVs and the off-road maestro that is the midsize Bronco.

No matter which model you have your eye on, the road to finding a used Ford for sale starts at Pauli Ford. We stock all of the brand’s top SUV models and are very discerning when it comes to which pre-owned models we’ll allow on the lot. We hold our used Ford SUVs to the highest standards and subject each model to a rigorous inspection process to ensure that every buyer enjoys worry-free driving for miles upon miles.

In an effort to connect drivers with the right model, we’ve compiled a brief guide to some of the pre-owned Ford SUVs you’ll find here at Pauli Ford. We’ve used 2022 models as a reference point; however, there are both newer and older options to explore when you visit the dealership. Buckle in and join us as we explore some of Ford’s most popular models and figure out which one is the right fit for you.

Ford Bronco Sport

Segment: Compact

The Right Choice For: Those seeking versatility

The Bronco Sport might share a name and an off-road attitude with its larger Bronco sibling, but that’s where the similarities end. The smaller Bronco employs a crossover design as opposed to the body-on-frame approach championed by the midsize Bronco. This does have its drawbacks, namely preventing drivers from removing the top and doors, and slightly limiting its off-road potential. However, that’s a small price to pay for the type of versatility the Bronco Sport can provide. City dwellers and commuters will appreciate the SUV’s nimble size and 26-mpg fuel economy, while those eager to venture off the grid will enjoy a crossover that isn’t afraid to get a little grimy.

Every Bronco Sport offers AWD as a standard feature, but that’s just one part of the SUV’s off-road arsenal. The crossover Bronco is also equipped with Ford’s Terrain Management System (TMS), which allows drivers to access up to seven dedicated Go Over Any Terrain (G.O.A.T.) modes. By adjusting the Bronco Sport’s throttle response, transmission shift points, braking calibrations, and steering feel, these G.O.A.T. modes allow the SUV to excel on any type of terrain.

Normal and Eco modes are pretty self-explanatory, but things get interesting once you hit Sport mode, which ups the throttle response to take advantage of the model’s available 250-hp turbocharged engine. Slippery mode keeps you planted on the road when things start to get a little dicey, and is the optimal choice for those snowy winter commutes. Sand mode can help to free you from a stubborn dune or deep snowbank, and Mud/Ruts mode engages the Bronco Sport’s 4×4 lock feature to maximize traction. Finally, there’s Rock Crawl mode, which engages both the 4×4 lock and rear differential lock to enable the SUV to surmount even the steepest terrain.

Ford Escape

Segment: Compact

The Right Choice For: Efficiency

The Escape isn’t long for this world, with Ford planning to discontinue the compact crossover following the release of the 2026 model. However, there are still plenty of pre-owned options to choose from at Pauli Ford. We hate to see the Escape go after a full quarter-century on the market, but with the introduction of the Bronco Sport, there are simply too many compact crossovers in the Ford lineup. The Escape was instrumental in defining the early crossover segment when it first hit the streets in 2001, offering the same clever mix of efficiency, utility, and comfort that has made the segment a dominant force in today’s market.

The Escape’s efficiency makes the SUV a perfect option for those who spend a lot of time behind the wheel, but that doesn’t mean the crossover can’t have a little fun when the occasion calls for it. The Escape’s standard 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine offers 180 hp and, more importantly, up to 30 MPG combined thanks to its turbocharger.

The four-cylinder engine is sure to inject a little excitement into your daily commute, with the 2.0-liter mill delivering 250 hp and a zero-to-60 mph time of just 5.7 seconds. Drivers also have an even more efficient option to consider in the Escape Hybrid. Introduced in 2020, the electrically assisted SUV comes in two distinct forms: a regular hybrid and a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version that can travel up to 37 miles on pure battery power. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors see the Escape Hybrid log as much as 41 MPG, which is sure to save you some serious cash at the pump.

Ford Bronco

Segment: Midsize

The Right Choice For: Off-road adventure

When Ford revived the iconic Bronco in 2021, it knew the SUV had a high bar to live up to. The original Bronco leveraged its rugged, compact design and 4WD construction to become a force to be reckoned with in the early off-road segment, and the new version is carrying on that proud tradition while folding some fun modern touches into the mix.

The Bronco’s customization potential is another big selling point. Off-road SUVs provide a canvas that allows drivers to create their own one-of-a-kind 4WD masterpiece, and the Bronco is no exception with its removable top, doors, and endless available accessories.

Ford has introduced several new trims since the Bronco’s reintroduction, including eye-catching special editions such as the Stroppe, Heritage Limited, and Free Wheeling models. Every model boasts some level of off-road ability — this is the Bronco, after all — but the Black Diamond and Badlands trims are especially compelling with their heavy-duty front and rear bumpers, rock rails, off-road-tuned suspensions, and disconnectable front stabilizer bars. Then there’s the Ranger Raptor, a ready-made trophy truck in SUV form complete with 37-inch all-terrain tires, Fox shock absorbers, and a heavy-duty rear axle. The available Sasquatch package enables most trims to gain a slight off-road edge, thanks to electronically locking front and rear axles, a lifted suspension, and a set of 25-inch tires wrapped around beadlock-capable wheels that can be partially deflated to float over loose terrain.

Ford Explorer

Segment: Midsize

The Right Choice For: Families focused on safety

Ford’s log of record-setting achievements shouldn’t be surprising when you consider that the brand pioneered the early American automotive industry, but it’s still fun to ponder the automaker’s dominance. Take the Ford Explorer, for example. The midsize model is not only Ford’s best-selling SUV, but it’s also America’s all-time best-selling SUV.

The Explorer strikes the perfect balance between size and efficiency. Consider the hybrid model, which offers up to 27 MPG while still managing to tow up to 5,000 lbs. An available turbocharged V6 transforms the Explorer into a lean, mean towing machine with a maximum capacity of 5,600 lbs. The SUV’s three-row design makes it an excellent option for families, particularly when considering its extensive list of comfort, convenience, and safety features.

From a tri-zone automatic climate control system that keeps every passenger comfortable to ample USB ports, a wireless smartphone charging pad, second-row sunshades, and available heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, the Explorer includes plenty of premium features that’ll have you looking forward to every ride.

Ford offers both off-road- and performance-focused Explorer trims in the Timberline and ST models, which also feature confidence-enhancing ADAS, including adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, and a handy surround-view camera system that makes parking the full-size SUV exceptionally easy. Every trim offers a robust ADAS package with frontal collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, and a blind-spot monitoring system. While Ford has since added its BlueCruise hands-free driving technology to the Explorer, it may be challenging to find on the used market, as it only became available in 2025.

Ford Expedition

Segment: Full-Size

The Right Choice For: Towing and cargo hauling

If you’re in the market for a roomy family vehicle that isn’t afraid to put in a little hard work, the Ford Expedition is the way to go. The three-row Expedition is Ford’s largest SUV, making it the ideal choice for larger families and demanding towing tasks.

The numbers speak for themselves with the Expedition seating up to eight passengers while providing almost 105 cu.ft. of cargo space. That should be more than enough room for even the longest road trip, but if you’re still worried about running out of real estate, there’s always the Expedition Max model. The Max is nearly a foot longer than the standard Expedition, and while it doesn’t seat any extra passengers, it does raise the SUV’s cargo capacity to 122 cu.ft.

Of course, the interior is only half of the story when it comes to the Expedition. A pair of brawny EcoBoost V6 engines provides anywhere between 380 and 440 hp and up to 510 lb-ft. of torque thanks to integrated turbochargers, which has a massive impact on the SUV’s towing ability. The Expedition can pull 9,300 lbs, which is 3,500 lbs more than the next closest Ford model in the Explorer. The turbocharged EcoBoost engines deserve much of the credit. Still, the SUV’s considerable towing capacity can also be attributed to the body-on-frame design it shares with Ford’s best-selling vehicle, the full-size F-150 pickup.
