Ford X, A & Z Plan Overview

October 31st, 2019 by

If you have been shopping for a new Ford vehicle you may be a little confused by all the different prices you see on different dealers websites and the terminology they use to describe those prices. You may see names like A Plan, Z plan, X plan or MSRP. How do you know which price you get? How do you know if you qualify for X plan? These are good questions that we hope we can answer and clarify what you can expect when you go to buy your next Ford.

The most common price you see on websites, and it is even printed on the window stickers, is the MSRP. MSRP stands for manufacturer suggested retail price. The MSRP is the same for all dealers in an area on the same vehicle, built around the same time. MSRP is like the starting price to buying a vehicle. The MSRP is made of the base price plus options and destination minus package discounts. Things that affect the price from there include accessories added to the vehicle for sale, rebates, dealership discounts, plus taxes and fees. There are very few dealers that will charge you MSRP, but some special models like the high end 2020 Ford Mustangs and the Ford Raptors will sell at MSRP.

Ford, Chevy and most other vehicle manufacturers have set up discount programs for their families, friends and supporting companies. Some of these programs you may qualify for and not even know it. Xplan, or sometimes it is called supplier discount is offered to employees of companies that supply parts for Ford, and it is also offered to other companies that have affiliations with the UAW or partners. Local companies that get Xplan would be Kroger, Sparrow Hospitals, Consumers Power and employees of Michigan State University. The great thing is that the Xplan price is the same at every Ford dealer in the nation. That means the Ford dealer in Grand Ledge, the Ford Dealer in Okemos and the Ford dealer in Lansing all have to sell it at the same price. All you need to do is pick the dealership that has the best service and buy your new Ford there.

If you work for Ford you already know that you get Aplan. However did you know that your son that lives in Ovid also gets Aplan? Or your daughter that lives in Fowler does too? Even your grandson that lives in Holt gets it. Aplan is for employees of Ford employees and their families. Aplan is the same as Xplan in that the price will be the same at any Ford dealer in the nation. The difference between A plan and Z plan is that once an employee retires they now get Z plan. The price of A plan and Z plan are the same.

A question we get a lot is how much of a discount is Xplan? All of the discount programs are different depending on the vehicle. All of the plan prices are stated on the invoice of the vehicle. The discount could be as small as $300 or over $3000. It just depends on the vehicle. If you would like more information about plan pricing or want to know if you qualify for Xplan please contact us.
