How To Disable Ford MyKey

February 26th, 2020 by

Ford MyKey is a great feature added to most new Ford vehicles in the last eight years. It allows an admin, most of the time a parent, to set restrictions on the vehicles. Limits on vehicle speed, audio levels, and seatbelt usage can be applied to a certain key. For example, Kim wants to make sure that her son Bill uses his seat belt and does not drive too fast in her new Ford Explorer. So Kim, who has an admin key, gives Bill a key that is programmed with limits. Now if Bill does not use his seat belt the radio will not turn on and the Ford Explorer will not go any faster than 70mph. Note that the admin key will have no limits on it.
When Kim traded in her Ford Escape to get her new Ford Explorer, she wanted to erase the MyKey setting she had on it. Here are the steps to disable Ford MyKey.

  • Start the vehicle with MyKey enabled using the admin key. Wait for the dashboard and center screen to power up.
  • With the controls on the steering wheel that control the dash display, push the left arrow until you get to the main menu.
  • When you get to the main menu scroll down until you get to “Settings” and push “OK”.
  • Once you are in the settings menu scroll down until you see a menu for “MyKey” and press “OK” again.
  • Once you are in the MyKey menu scroll down until you find the option to “Clear MyKey”.
  • Press and hold the “OK” button until the message “All MyKeys Cleared” appears on the screen.

How To Program Keys with Ford MyKey

The Ford MyKey is a very useful feature that allows owners, most of the time parents, to limit features on a vehicle. You can limit vehicle top speed, make sure seat belts are being used, and limit distractions from entertainment features. Here is how to program a key with Ford MyKey.

  • Take the key you want to put a limitation on and start the vehicle. If you have a push-button start vehicle, insert the key fob in the backup slot, see owners manual for location.
  • Once you are in the MyKey menu scroll down until you find “Create MyKey” and press “OK”.

There are a lot of steps to both setup and disable MyKey settings. It is not difficult but can be a bit confusing at first. Most people that need it disabled have no idea how it got turned on in the first place. If you need more help please contact our Pauli Ford service department.
