The sixth-generation Ford Bronco has been making headlines left and right. Car and Driver gave it a spot on its “10 Best Trucks and SUVs” list. In 2022, it was one of the fastest-selling new vehicles. Off-road enthusiasts just can’t get enough of this fun, brawny, and powerful SUV, and now the 2024 model is for your next great adventure—and we’re the Ford dealership to visit if you want expert insight into this exciting off-roader.

For the 2024 model year, the Ford Bronco has loads of unique trims, some beefy engine options, and, per usual, two- and four-door options for passenger versatility and thrills. You can take the doors off, too, as it wouldn’t be an authentic off-road experience otherwise!

Many off-road vehicles have 4×4 capability and massive all-terrain tires. So, for many, the question is: what sets the Bronco apart from its competitors? The answers are not always apparent to the naked eye. However, Ford has designed the 2024 Bronco with some special features that remove nearly all limitations to going farther off the grid and exploring those remote places where you’ll find almost no street lights or cell towers—just sand dunes and the sound of your own engine. That’s what the Bronco is all about. Where other vehicles have to stop due to hazards and obstacles, the Bronco can keep going. Here are six features of the 2024 Bronco that let you explore more.

High Ground Clearance

In city streets and suburban areas, there are drainage systems in place to make sure there are never more than a few inches of water anywhere vehicles might pass. That, however, is not the case once you leave paved roads for the deep forest, swamps, jungle, and beyond. The wilderness doesn’t care if a stream stands between your vehicle and your destination—but that’s part of the beauty of off-roading.

Luckily, the 2024 Bronco enjoys 11.7 inches of ground clearance in its Everglades trim (and still a generous 11.6 inches on other trims). It also has a high-mounted air intake. These features mean that, when you see a stream or shallow pond ahead but don’t want to backtrack and go around, you can charge on through. Plus, if you’ve taken the doors off your Bronco, you might even enjoy the refreshing splash of the water on your feet; even then, your engine won’t flood.

Water fording is part of the fun when you go off-roading. We know off-roaders buy the Bronco because they want the power to drive over just about anything, from sand to mud and even water. A little stream won’t stand in your way of getting to that beautiful hilltop photo op or isolated campsite, thanks to the high ground clearance of the 2024 Bronco.

Sharp Approach & Departure Angles

City planners design urban streets so that your regular sedan or SUV can climb them without issue, but no regular car can tackle a particularly steep slope without scraping up its undercarriage or even possibly getting stuck; again, nature doesn’t care about appointments or the flow of traffic. When you’re in an extreme off-road environment, you might encounter a steep or narrow hill or valley that you suddenly have to surmount if you’re going to get to your destination.

The 2024 Bronco was made with impressive departure, approach, and breakover angles, so you don’t need to fret when the sharp angle of that rocky hill comes out of nowhere. The 2024 Ford Bronco has a 37.2-degree departure angle, a 43.2-degree approach angle, and a 29-degree breakover angle.

An approach angle refers to the maximum degree of any incline that your vehicle can climb, starting from a perfectly horizontal position. The departure angle is essentially the rear approach angle, so it’s the maximum angle the rear of the vehicle can climb when starting from a level surface. Many standard cars have approach angles in the range of 20 to 30 degrees and a departure angle of 15 to 25 degrees. So you can see these angles are much higher in the Bronco, making it ready for hilly terrain.

Steel Underbody Protection

Even with a high ground clearance and impressive approach and departure angles, you still want to protect the undercarriage of your Bronco. There are critical components down there—particularly your drivetrain—and getting even a small rock or some mud stuck up there could cause major issues. That’s why the 2024 Bronco has available steel bash plate protection.

If you truly want to push your Bronco to the limits and have the freedom to explore the roughest terrain, we recommend adding this steel bash plate protection. If you don’t want tiny particles leading to concerning clunking sounds that bring your adventure to a grinding halt, we highly recommend adding this extra protection.

Slow Speed Cruise Control

True nature-lovers don’t want to be hyper-focused on driving once they get to their destination. You want to take in the sights and sounds, breathe in that rare fresh air, and listen to the birds. Constantly accelerating and decelerating to respond to changing terrain or angles beneath your tires detracts from the enjoyment. That’s why Ford gave the 2024 Bronco Ford “Trail Control.”

This Ford feature is a low-speed cruise control system. So once you’re in a large, open area where you just want to relax and take it all in, activate this system; your vehicle will maintain a steady slow speed, and you can focus on soaking in nature’s beauty.

Single Pedal Driving

There’s one more feature that lets you take some of your focus off the task of driving, and that’s the one-pedal drive feature. When activated, this lets you accelerate and brake using only the gas pedal. When you take your foot off the accelerator, the brakes naturally engage.

Everything about the 2024 Bronco is designed to let you fully immerse yourself in your off-road environment, from the removable doors to the massive windshield offering sweeping views. One-pedal driving is one more such feature, and we love to show it off to customers.

Off-the-Grid Maps

Before there were smartphones with Wi-Fi capability, adventurers had to rely on good old-fashioned paper maps—but it’s now the digital era, and most drivers have fallen out of the habit of keeping these on hand. In fact, many people don’t even know how to navigate a physical map these days, but if you rely on cellular data or Wi-Fi to know where you’re going, you face a dilemma as an off-roader: the destinations most worth exploring don’t have the best phone service.

Ford thought of this issue and addressed it with the Ford Bronco’s Trail app, which contains maps of over 18,000 miles of trails in the US, Mexico, and Canada—and they’re all downloadable. So you can download the appropriate maps to your phone while you’re in a service area, then access them when you’re miles away from the nearest cell tower.

When choosing maps, you can also filter by useful features like length, difficulty, and location. Many even suggest a recommended tire pressure gauge, letting you prepare for your adventure accordingly. Plus, you’ll find points of interest, like a place to take a dip in a creek or take a great photo.
